I have included this artifact, IEP, under Standard 6, Assessment, because it highlights the importance of assessments, in this case to create an IEP for a student who is struggling in class. This artifact shows how a teacher is involved in the process of creating and following through with an IEP.

Reflection

What does this artifact represent about me as a teacher?

This artifact demonstrates my understanding of how assessments can be used to see where students are excelling and where they are struggling. This plan shows that I have knowledge of how assessments are used to create individualized plans for students who may need extra support. I recognize that assessments are a crucial part to creating effective lessons in my classroom and need to be done to ensure the success of each student.

How does this artifact reflect my personal growth and strengths as a teacher?

This artifact reflects my personal growth and strengths as a teacher by showing that I understand, instruction for every student will not look exactly the same. As a teacher, it is my job to assess the skills and abilities of my students and take that information to then assess and reflect on my own teaching. Assessments not only help student growth but teachers professional growth as well.

What skills do I want to improve in relation to this standard?

This skills I want to improve in relation to this standard include practice using and the different types of assessment such as universal screening, diagnostic, progress monitoring, and outcome evaluation. I know these skills will come in time as I get more experience working in my own classroom for I do already have a base understanding of what these are along with how and when to use them.
