Name of Artifact: Health Parent Newsletter

Date of Artifact: March 30, 2025

Course: EDUC 240 - Introduction to Physical and Health Education for Elementary Teachers

Rationale:

I have included this artifact, Health Parent Newsletter, under Standard 10, Leadership and Collaboration because this is a newsletter specifically designed by me, for the parents of students in my classroom. Standard 10 states "to collaborate with learners, families, colleagues, other school professionals, and community members to ensure learner growth." Not only does this newsletter get parents involved with what I strive to promote in my classroom, happy, healthy students, but it also gets the community involved by providing local resources that families can utilize.

Reflection

What does this artifact represent about me as a teacher?

This artifact demonstrates that it is my goal as a teacher, to provide each student with the healthiest lifestyle I can inside my classroom and strive to do all I can to continue those opportunities into the home. The resources provided in this newsletter also highlight the importance of all aspects of health. I have not just focused on physical wellbeing but have provided resources for mental health as well. Health is about more than just the food you eat and the exercise you do. Health encompasses a wide variety of things and children need support in every area to make a well-rounded, healthy lifestyle possible.

How does this artifact reflect my personal growth and strengths as a teacher?

This artifact demonstrates that I am dedicated to providing my students with the best possible chances to having a happy, healthy lifestyle not just in school, but outside of school too. I recognize that it takes a village to raise a child and by coming together teachers, students, families, and communities alike, with a common goal, we can make a healthy lifestyle more attainable for all.

What skills do I want to improve in relation to this standard?

I want to continue educating myself about the resources that are available to families not just in my local area but also state level and national resources. Keeping myself educated will in return help keep families educated because families often come to their child's teacher with any questions or concerns. I also want to continue to communicate more with families in general.
