Name of Artifact: Education Yearly Plan
Date of Artifact: March 31, 2025
Course: EDUC 240 - Introduction to Health and Physical Education for Elementary Teachers
Rationale:
I have included this artifact, Education Yearly Plan, under Standard 5, Application of Content, because this standard is about connecting concepts and using differing perspectives. In this artifact, I have taken into account different awareness months and connected them to lesson plan topics. For example, October is substance abuse prevention month so I planned activities around preventing alcohol, tobacco, and drug use. I also took in account holidays. February has Valentines Day which is all about feelings so I implemented some activities about mental and emotional health.

Reflection
What does this artifact represent about me as a teacher?
This artifacts shows that I am able to take material in the state standards, and relate it to my students personally. By connecting academic concepts to concepts we experience and talk about in our daily life, it is going to make the content more relatable. If students can relate to a topic, they are more likely to comprehend it.

How does this artifact reflect my personal growth and strengths as a teacher?
This artifact demonstrates that I understand the importance background knowledge has on classroom engagement and comprehension. If students can not relate something to their everyday lives, they are less likely to listen to a lesson involving it. By connecting concepts to holidays and prevention/awareness months, I can gain more interest in my classrooms.

What skills do I want to improve in relation to this standard?
I want to find more ways to relate standards to holidays and certain months. There are many ways to link these things but I want to work on my creativity and find more engaging ways to get students interested in content areas while still covering state standards.
