Name of Artifact: Health Video Observation

Date of Artifact: April 5, 2025

Course: EDUC 240 - Introduction to Physical and Health Education for Elementary Teachers

Rationale:

I have included this artifact, Health Video Observation, under Standard 4, Content Knowledge, because it demonstrates that I have understanding of different aspects of a lesson and why each part is important. In this artifact, I have dissected a health lesson and the instructional methods used in it.

Reflection

What does this artifact represent about me as a teacher?

This artifact shows that I am able to look at a lesson and determine what instructional strategies can and should be used. I am also able to reflect back and see what methods were successful. Being able to teach material in a variety of ways is crucial to ensure that students are learning the content in a way that they can understand.

How does this artifact reflect my personal growth and strengths as a teacher?

This artifact demonstrates one of my greatest strengths which is being able to reflect and adapt. After reflecting on this lesson, I was able to see what aspects should be kept the same and some parts that should probably be changed to better ensure the students are understanding. As a teacher, being able to adapt is critical to effective instruction. If students are not grasping material then it's time to adapt my instructional methods to fit the needs of my students. If I notice they are behind but I do not do anything about it, nothing is going to change.

What skills do I want to improve in relation to this standard?

In relation to this standard, I want to work on finding more instructional methods that I can incorporate in my classroom that will help struggling students. Sometimes it feels like you have done all you can but you have to keep going and trying new things. I want to improve my confidence in trying out new ways of teaching material.
